Optical laboratory technician

Optical technicians grind and fit eyeglass lenses into frames according to prescriptions written by ophthalmologist. Technicians set lens grinding machines so that lens blank are ground and polished. After they do that then they put the grinded lenses into the frames and they work on it to fix it into place. Many of this professions work in departments stores such as a mall.

Average salary: $15,000 - $20,000

Educational requirements

What this profession requires is a high school diploma or a GED certificate is needed to begin optical laboratory training. The training programs last about six months to one year.  


i wouldn't want to become one because it would be difficult to grind the lenses of glasses.
